The Teacher: Matt Plewes

Matt Plewes is from Hampton Roads, Virginia USA. He is the proud father of three daughters and a baby boy.. One is residing in America, one a Junior High Student in Shizuoka, and the youngest daughter (pictured) a three year old full of energy.
Matt has been in Japan for 12 years and has a Permanent Resident Visa. He lives mainly in Japan, but also visits America and his family owns an apartment Indonesia for extended stays during winter break.
Matt has been teaching English for 12 years. He has studied several languages and has traveled extensively. He specializes in Survival English and Professional English, such as Business, Medical, Tourism and Hotel English.
In America, Matt attended Paul D. Camp College for Engineering, Computer Aided Drafting and Management. In addition, Matt attended several specialized schools, including; Virginia Emergency Medical Services and Criminal Justice Services of Virginia. He also has 35 years experience studying, researching and teaching martial arts in both Asia and America.
Matt worked as a Martial Arts Teacher and School Manager, an Emergency Medical Technician-A on an Ambulance, as well as a Private Investigator, a Product Development Engineer and a Paper-maker before moving to Japan.
In Japan, Matt trained as an ESL- (English as a Second Language Teacher) and has worked in private and public schools. Matt has owned his own English school since 2001. Matt is a life long Martial Artist and has a Master Teacher License and operates Chuntian Academy International. www.chuntianacademy.com. Matt has a weekly Saturday Night Kung Fu class at S.B.S. Gakuen in Shizuoka City. His Martial arts and Self-defense skills have been featured on SBS-TV in Japan. SBS has been sponsoring his weekly classes for 4 years.
Matt is also a highly praised English teacher, with most of his students being dedicated and studying under him for many years. Matt approaches English teaching the same as he approaches Kung fu teaching; Keep it Simple, Master the Basics, and learn the essentials.
In addition, some of his English students have traveled to America with him. Matt makes himself available to his students after hours and often has special events and parties at his house in Shizuoka.
